Estrogen: Harmful or Helpfull??
Estrogen: Harmful or Harmless??
Estrogen is a hormone produced mainly in the female ovaries. It got a bad warp in the ’80’s and has had a hard time overcoming this. In the menopausal women, estrogen maintains our mental health, keeps the lady parts plump and moist (a must for intercourse), supports libido, lubricates joints (decreasing pain), maintains bone strength,-just to name a few. Women who have an immediate maternal family or person history of estrogen receptor positive breast cancer are not candidates for estrogen replacement, however, that is a small percentage of the population. Estrogen in small doses via creams or patches are generally considered safe and can vastly improve quality of life and help maintain premenopausal youthfulness.
Progesterone: Are you out of balance?
If estrogen is Ying, Progesterone is Yang, it balances your system. Low Progesterone presents as heavier periods, irritability to rage, headaches, cysts, and POOR SLEEP. Progesterone is the first to decline is early peri menopause starting mid 30’s to early 40’s. Too much estrogen (because is it not balanced) throws off the equilibrium wreaking havoc and making life miserable. If you are feeling out of balance, gentle hormone treatment, diet and lifestyle can make a big difference to helping your feel like yourself again.
