PROGESTERONE

Progesterone, or the ‘hormone of pregnancy’ is a super star hormone, one we don’t appreciate until levels decline. It would be better referred to as the Hormone of Health. Progesterone is the relaxing hormone, it is the first to decline in the early peri menopause phase causing anxiety, lack of focus, and poor sleep.

Low progesterone in the reproductive years can contribute to PMS, depression, anxiety, heavy periods, and infertility.

Why I use Bio Identical Hormones. Unbeknownst to most, the contraception you may be using or have used, ie birth control pills, is not a natural source of hormone, these are synthetic compounds that attempt to mimic hormones. In some women these can cause anxiety, depression, weight gain and generally ill feeling.  While touted as a cure all for menstrual maladies, they simply cover up problems.

A meta-analysis of 3 studies involving 86 881 postmenopausal women reported that the use of natural progesterone was associated with a significantly lower risk of breast cancer compared with synthetic progestins or progestogens, (very often used in postmenopausal hormone replacement).

Low levels of serum progesterone have been associated with a significantly higher risk of breast cancer in premenopausal women. Use of progesterone has been linked to lower rates of uterine and colon cancers and may also be useful in treating other cancers such as ovarian, melanoma, mesothelioma, and prostate.
